- Made in Canada apps
Barcode and photo scanners for groceries and household products.
- Canadian alternatives to Gmail
Several companies in Canada sell email and say the mail stays in the country. None of them is a free, ad-supported inbox with Gmail’s reach. If you want a Canadian operator, you are looking at a paid host, or at NorthMail’s free mailbox with ads. Proton Mail is the private service people often compare, and Proton is Swiss, not Canadian.
- Canadian alternatives to Google Drive
Sync.com is the clearest consumer file-sync product we could verify as a Canadian company that says it stores files in data centres it operates in Toronto. There is no Canadian equivalent of a free Google account with Drive built in. Proton Drive is a common private alternative, and Proton is based in Switzerland.
- Canadian alternatives to Google Workspace
A full office suite that is Canadian-owned, open for signup, and priced in public is hard to find. Soomi describes itself as that suite and is still taking invitations, with pricing not finalized. cDox covers documents and spreadsheets on servers it describes as independent hardware in Montreal. Microsoft 365 can place some business data in a Canada region and remains a US company.
- Canadian password managers
1Password is a Canadian company, AgileBits Inc. Toronto-headquartered; outside investors, ownership beyond that unverified. The vault is in Canada only if the account is created on 1password.ca. Shared items can be stored in the EU while they are shared. We did not find another widely used password manager that is both Canadian-owned and running its own data centre.
- How we judge Canadian digital services
Ownership, headquarters, data residency, infrastructure, governing law, and research. Not the grocery score.
Grocery and household scores stay on how we score Canadian origin. Software does not use that ladder. No affiliate links.
