We’re updating these terms on December 1, 2026. Here’s what changes.
From that date, the licence for product details and images you submit is written out in full. It does not cover account information, messages, or gift inquiries. We use it to run the site. We publish product information you submit for a page. We do not sell what you submit, and we do not give personal information to another company for that company’s own use, including training its AI, unless you opt in. We may license statistics that do not identify anyone. If the business is transferred, the next owner has to follow these terms and the privacy policy. A change that expands how we use your data applies to data we already have only if you expressly agree. Staying on the site is not that agreement.
Until December 1, 2026, the terms on this page, other than the sections marked with that date, are the ones that apply. Read the marked sections.
Terms and Conditions
These terms cover how you may use fyiCanada.ca and what you can and cannot rely on. Read the section on origin information closely if you are a brand or a retailer. If you make or sell alcohol, also read the section on restricted products.
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Who we are
fyiCanada.ca is operated by Southern East Inc., a corporation incorporated federally in Canada and operating from Ontario. Our mailing address is Southern East Inc., 222 Main St E, North Bay, ON P1B 1B1. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “fyiCanada” mean Southern East Inc. “You” means anyone using the site.
Acceptance
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, stop using the site. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you have the authority to bind it. If you create an account, these terms apply to that account as well.
Accounts
You can read the site without an account. Sign-in is optional, and it is not an age check. Creating an account does not let you buy alcohol from us, and it does not change a score or give you editorial control over a page.
If you create an account, you agree that:
- The email address is yours, or you are allowed to use it.
- You will keep your password to yourself if your sign-in uses one, and you will tell us if you think someone else has used the account.
- You are responsible for what happens through the account until you tell us it is no longer under your control.
- You will not create an account for anyone under 13, or let them use yours.
We may refuse, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that we reasonably believe is being misused. You can ask us to close yours through the contact form. Closing an account does not refund a published submission, and it does not delete records we are required to keep. What we store, and for how long, is in our privacy policy.
What this site is
fyiCanada is an independent information service about Canadian products. We research, aggregate and publish information about where products come from. We do not sell the products we write about, we do not test them, and we do not inspect the facilities that make them.
Nothing on this site is legal, regulatory, financial, medical, dietary or purchasing advice. Information about ingredients, allergens, nutrition, warnings and certifications is reproduced from third party sources and can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Never rely on this site for a decision that affects health or safety. Read the product packaging, and speak to a qualified professional.
Canadian origin information and scores
Our score is an opinion, not an origin certification
The Canadian score, score band and origin label we publish are our own editorial assessment of publicly available evidence. They are not a certification, an audit, an accreditation or a regulatory determination. They are not issued, verified or endorsed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Competition Bureau, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, or any other authority. They are not equivalent to, and must not be treated as, a “Product of Canada”, “Made in Canada” or similar origin claim as those terms are defined under Canadian law.
The full rubric is published on our methodology page. In short: we score seven signals from public sources, we cap the score when evidence is thin, and we show the quote and link behind every signal so you can check it.
Where we display a claim like “Made in Canada” attributed to a company, we are reporting what that company says about its own product. We are not adopting the claim, verifying it, or confirming that it meets any legal threshold.
You may not use our scores, labels or verdicts on packaging, in advertising, or in any marketing material in a way that suggests official approval, third party certification, or that a product meets a regulated origin standard. If you want to reference a score, attribute it to fyiCanada, link to the product page, and make clear it is our assessment. We can withdraw permission to use our name or scores if they are being used misleadingly.
Accuracy and currency
We work hard to get this right and we still get things wrong. Supply chains change, companies are acquired, production moves, and sources go stale without telling us. We make no representation or warranty that anything on the site is accurate, complete, current or fit for any purpose. Any reliance you place on it is at your own risk.
Found a mistake? Tell us. We fix errors for free and we do not charge anyone to correct a score.
Third party content, links and trademarks
Product images, logos, brand names, descriptions and specifications come from manufacturers, retailers and other public sources. They remain the property of their owners and appear here to identify the products we write about. We claim no ownership of them and no affiliation with their owners.
Outbound links are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites, we do not endorse them, and we are not responsible for their content, their prices, their availability or their privacy practices.
If you own rights in something published here and want it removed, send us a request identifying the material and your rights in it. We review takedown requests promptly.
Alcohol and other restricted products
Pages about wine, beer, cider, spirits and similar drinks are editorial. They report origin, ownership and sourcing. We are not a liquor manufacturer, a liquor sales licensee or a retailer, and we do not sell alcohol. Nothing on those pages is an offer to sell liquor, and ordinary coverage is not an advertisement placed for a brand.
We do not ask you to confirm your age before you read them. A link such as Buy Now leaves this site and opens a retailer. That retailer decides whether to sell to you, including any age check at its own checkout. We are not a party to that sale.
A paid product submission for an alcohol product pays for research and a page, the same as any other submission. It does not buy a score, a ranking, a featured placement, or copy that promotes drinking. See our disclosure page.
If we ever take payment for a featured spot, a sponsored listing, or any other promotion of liquor or its availability, that content is advertising by the brand that paid for it. In Ontario it has to follow the Registrar’s advertising guidelines administered by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Equivalent provincial rules apply wherever that content is shown. We will not publish paid alcohol promotion that encourages consumption, is aimed at youth, or shows people drinking, and we will label it as advertising before it goes live.
We do not describe alcohol as healthy. That includes claims about heart health, antioxidants or similar benefits. Copy on those pages stays with ownership, origin and sourcing.
Cannabis, tobacco and vaping products are not covered by the paragraphs above. The Cannabis Act and the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act restrict promotion of those products, including content that states a brand preference or could appeal to youth. We do not publish categories for them. If we ever do, we will update these terms first.
We do not buy ads on Google, Meta or similar platforms that point at alcohol pages. If we do, those ads will follow that platform’s alcohol rules, including any age targeting the platform requires.
Product submissions and fees
You can pay a per product fee to submit products for research. Prices are shown before checkout, in Canadian dollars, plus applicable Canadian taxes. Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details.
By submitting a product, you confirm:
- The information you give us is accurate and not misleading, and you have the right to give it to us.
- You grant us a non exclusive, worldwide, royalty free licence to use, store, adapt and publish that information and any images you send, for the purpose of running and promoting the site.
- You understand the fee pays for research and editorial work, not for a result. See our disclosure page for the full breakdown.
That licence covers the product information and images in a submission. It does not cover account information, messages, contact-form messages, or gift inquiries. It does not let us sell what you submit, or give your personal information to another company for that company’s own purposes, including training that company’s AI. Your email and any other personal information in a submission stay under the privacy policy.
We may decline to publish any submission, at our discretion, including where we cannot verify the product or where what we find contradicts what was submitted. Where we decline to publish, we refund that product’s fee. Once a page is published, the fee is non refundable, but corrections remain free for as long as the page is live.
We may edit, re-score, update, unpublish or remove any page at any time, including a paid one, if new evidence warrants it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl at scale, bulk download or systematically extract the catalogue or the score data, or use it to build a competing database, without our written permission.
- Reproduce substantial portions of our content, including scores, verdicts and breakdowns, as if it were your own.
- Submit false, misleading or infringing information, or someone else’s product without authority.
- Interfere with the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or attempt to access anything you are not authorised to access.
- Use the site for anything unlawful.
Reasonable personal use, sharing links, and normal search engine indexing are all fine. If you are a researcher or a journalist and want the data, just ask.
Our content
The scoring rubric, written verdicts, editorial copy, site design and the compiled database are ours and are protected by copyright. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you.
No warranties
The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or error free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill or business interruption, arising out of your use of the site, whatever the cause of action.
Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims connected to the site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or one hundred Canadian dollars.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Your consumer rights
If you are a consumer, you may have rights under provincial consumer protection law, including the Ontario Consumer Protection Act and the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, that cannot be waived by contract. Nothing in these terms takes those rights away, and where a term here conflicts with a mandatory protection in your province, that protection wins and the rest of these terms still applies.
Indemnity
If you submit content to us or use the site in breach of these terms, you agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from that, including third party claims that your submitted content infringes their rights or is misleading. This does not apply to a consumer acting outside a business, trade or profession.
Changes to the site and these terms
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time. When we update these terms, we change the date at the top and post a notice. Material changes follow this section. Staying on the site, or not replying, is never a yes.
This section does not let us use personal information we already hold for a new purpose. Personal information stays under the privacy policy. A material change to that policy gets a notice on the site. A new purpose for personal information needs a clear yes. Staying on the site is not that yes.
The notice at the top of this page is the notice for the sections that take effect on December 1, 2026. Until that date, the paragraphs above are how we change these terms. The stricter rules below take effect on that date.
Takes effect December 1, 2026.
What counts as material. A change is material if a reasonable user would consider it significant. For example, it reduces your rights or our obligations, raises fees, changes how we use or share your data, changes dispute resolution or governing law, or takes away a paid feature.
Notice. We will give at least 30 days’ notice of a material change, with a notice on fyiCanada, and by email where we have your email because you have an account, a product submission, or an inquiry and the change affects that information. The notice will summarize the change and link to the old and new versions.
Your data. A change that expands how we use or share data applies to data we collected before the change only if you expressly agree. Staying on fyiCanada, or not replying, does not count as that agreement.
Your options. If you do not agree, you can stop using fyiCanada and ask us to close your account before the change takes effect. fyiCanada has no subscription. A product submission fee we have already earned by publishing a page stays non-refundable, as the submissions section says. If a material change takes effect before we publish a submission you have paid for, and you tell us you do not agree, we will refund that unpublished fee.
Other changes. Changes that are not material take effect when we post them. Staying on the site is not a yes to a new use of your data.
Past versions are linked below. If the law requires a change sooner, we will give as much notice as we can.
What takes effect December 1, 2026
Takes effect December 1, 2026.
The sections under this heading take effect on December 1, 2026. Before that date, they do not apply. They do not let us sell what you submit, and they do not let us give personal information to another company for that company’s own purposes unless you opt in. The privacy policy uses the same date, and it controls if these sections and that policy ever differ on personal information.
Your content
Takes effect December 1, 2026.
You own it. “Your Content” means the product details and images you submit for a product page on fyiCanada. It does not include account information, messages you send us, contact-form messages, or gift inquiries. You keep all your rights in it.
The licence you give us. You give Southern East Inc. a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, transmit, adapt for formatting and display, and display Your Content. We may do this only to:
- provide, secure, maintain and support fyiCanada for you, including showing or sending Your Content where you direct;
- show product information and images you submit for a product page, on that page and in listings or search results that present the site;
- fix bugs, measure which pages and features get used, and build features of fyiCanada, and, only where the privacy policy says so, train and test models used for features of fyiCanada. This item does not cover personal information or gift inquiries.
- create statistics and anonymized information as the privacy policy describes. This item does not cover personal information or gift inquiries. Those statistics come from catalogue facts and cookieless traffic totals.
The privacy policy says we do not use personal information to train AI models unless you opt in. This licence does not change that.
Limits. We will not sell Your Content. We will not give it to a third party for that party’s own purposes, including training that party’s AI models, unless you opt in or tell us to. Gift inquiries are never included. Our service providers may handle Your Content only to help us run fyiCanada.
What we publish. The right to show product information covers product details and images submitted for a listing. It does not cover your email address, account login, payment details, private messages, or gift inquiries.
How long the licence lasts. It ends when you delete Your Content or we close the account, except for: statistics and anonymized information already created, which do not identify you; backup copies, until they are overwritten in our normal backup cycle; product pages already published, which stay part of the catalogue as the submissions section describes; and anything the law requires us to keep. We do not train models on your personal information. If you had opted in and a model had already been trained before you deleted Your Content, we would not retrain it from scratch, but we would stop using Your Content for any future training. No such program is open.
Service Data
Takes effect December 1, 2026.
“Service Data” means statistics and anonymized information we create as the privacy policy describes, and technical information about how fyiCanada performs, such as uptime, errors and feature usage, in a form that does not identify you. Service Data does not include product details you submit. It does not identify you, a business contact, or any other person. It does not include personal information, gift inquiries, account records, messages, or submission emails.
Catalogue facts and cookieless traffic totals are not personal information. Partner statistics come from those, as the privacy policy says.
We own Service Data. We may use, publish and license it for any lawful purpose, but only while it stays non-identifying, and only if each recipient agrees in writing not to re-identify anyone, not to combine it with other data to do that, and not to pass it on without the same terms. If Service Data turns out to identify someone, we will treat it as personal information under the privacy policy and fix the problem. The invitation in “Acceptable use” for a researcher or journalist to ask still stands.
Assignment
Takes effect December 1, 2026.
We may assign or transfer these terms, and our related rights and obligations, including information handled under the privacy policy. We may do this to an affiliate, or to a successor in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, insolvency, or sale of all or part of our assets or of the business of fyiCanada. The successor must honour these terms and the privacy policy for the information it receives, unless it gives you notice and gets any consent the changes section and the privacy policy require. Personal information does not go to a partner for the partner’s own use, and does not leave Canada, unless you opt in, except where a named service provider already processes it outside Canada as the privacy policy describes. We will tell you within 30 days after such a transfer. Gift inquiries are personal information and get the same protections the privacy policy describes for a business transfer. You may not assign these terms without our written consent.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in another province, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own province, or of the right to bring proceedings there where that law gives it to you.
Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. These terms, together with our privacy policy, disclosure and methodology, are the whole agreement between us about the site. Sections that take effect on December 1, 2026 become part of that agreement on that date.

Questions, corrections, takedown requests and refund requests all go through the same place. Use our contact form or email hello@fyicanada.ca. You can also write to Southern East Inc., 222 Main St E, North Bay, ON P1B 1B1.
