Advertising and editorial disclosure

We take money from brands to process product submissions. You should know that before you read a score, so here is exactly how it works and where the wall sits.

Payment never buys a score

A brand can pay us to research and process a product. A brand cannot pay us to raise its Canadian score, soften a verdict, rank higher in a category, remove a competitor, or bury an unflattering finding. Those are not services we sell at any price. If someone offers you a different answer on our behalf, it is not coming from us.

How we make money

One way, today. Brands and individuals can pay a per product fee to submit products through our submission form. The fee covers the research, verification and editorial work needed to build a product page and score it. Pricing scales down as you add more products, and Canadian taxes are calculated at checkout.

What a paid submission does and does not buy

What you get:

  • Your product moves into our research queue instead of waiting.
  • We research its origin against public sources and anything you send us.
  • If it checks out, it gets a product page with a Canadian score, a verdict and the sources behind both.

What you do not get:

  • A particular score, band or origin label. The evidence decides that, and we do not preview or negotiate it.
  • Guaranteed publication. If we cannot verify the product, or what we find contradicts what was submitted, we will not publish it.
  • Preferential ranking, placement or promotion anywhere on the site. Category listings and search are not for sale.
  • Editorial control. You cannot approve, revise or veto the verdict before it goes live.
  • Removal of a score you dislike. You can correct facts. You cannot buy silence.

Refunds

If we review a submission and decide not to publish it, you get that product’s fee back. That is the whole point of charging for the work rather than the outcome. If we publish and you simply do not like the score, that is not a refund, it is a correction request, and those are free. Send us better evidence and we will re-score.

Refunds go back to the original payment method. To request one, contact us with the email address used at checkout.

Outbound and buy links

We currently earn no commission, affiliate revenue or referral fee on any outbound link, including Buy Now buttons. We tag outbound links with a reference parameter so brands can see that the visit came from us. That parameter earns us nothing and does not affect anything you pay.

If that changes and we start earning commission on purchases, we will say so here and label the affected links before any of it goes live. We will not quietly switch a link to a paid one.

Retailer links, prices and availability come from third parties and go out of date. Confirm both on the retailer’s own site before you buy.

Editorial independence

  • Scores are produced from the rubric on our methodology page, which is public and applies identically to paid and unpaid products.
  • Most products on the site were never paid for. We add them ourselves because people search for them.
  • The people doing the research do not get a bonus for a higher score or a published page.
  • Every scored signal shows the quote and source we used, so a paid page is auditable in exactly the way an unpaid one is.

No relationship with the brands we cover

Listing a product does not mean the brand endorses us, sponsors us, or has reviewed what we wrote. It does not mean we endorse the product. We are not affiliated with, and do not act for, any manufacturer, retailer or certification body mentioned on this site. Brand names, logos and product images belong to their owners and appear here to identify the products we are writing about.

Tell us if we get this wrong

If you think a page reads like it was bought, or a score does not match the evidence shown beside it, we want to know. Report it and point us at the page. We publish corrections rather than defend bad calls.
