Canadian Makeup Brands

Marcelle and Annabelle are the Canadian drugstore makeup brands. Groupe Marcelle, a family company in Dorval, Quebec, owns both, and most of its products are made at a plant in Montreal. MAC started in Toronto in 1984, but Estée Lauder has owned it since 1998, and only some of its products are still made in Canada. Maybelline, L'Oréal Paris and CoverGirl sit in the same aisles and are not Canadian.

Which makeup brands are made in Canada?

6 of the 10 top makeup brands we scored are made in Canada, across 24 products on fyiCanada. Brands with the strongest Canadian roots come first, so a famous name with weak Canadian ties doesn’t get the top spot. How the fyiCanada score works.

1. Marcelle

94/100 · Very strong Canadian ties
Canadian-made, domestic & imported inputs (Montreal, Quebec)

Head office in Dorval, QuebecFounded 1874

Marcelle belongs to the Cape family, not to a foreign beauty group. Victor Cape, a Montreal pharmacist, began selling it in Canada in 1949. His grandson David Cape says the company makes makeup, skin care and fragrance in Montreal, and that most of it is made in Quebec. Marcelle says 89 percent of its skin care is made in Canada. It does not give that figure for every makeup item.
