Canadian Cider Brands

1. Brickworks Ciderhouse

Chris Noll and Adam Gerrits started Brickworks Ciderhouse in Toronto in 2013. Mill Street, already owned by Labatt, bought it in December 2015. The brand site's terms name Labatt and Anheuser-Busch InBev. A 2018 release put a ciderhouse at 709 Queen Street East and said the apples come from within 300 km of Toronto. The Queen Street bar closed in January 2024. BlogTO reported the cider was still being brewed.

2. Yip Cider

Yip Cider is a family cidery at Mackay Orchard in Long Reach, New Brunswick. Yip bought the farm in 1964. His son Chas took over the orchard in 1980. The about page says every cider is fermented, matured, filtered, and canned or bottled on site, in a building opened down the road in 2021.

3. Thornbury Craft

Thornbury Craft fills cans at 90 King Street East in Thornbury, Ontario, inside an old apple warehouse. The brand site says the fruit is fresh-pressed and grown nearby. Colio Estate Wines, in Harrow, bought the cidery on February 12, 2016. An August 2025 column says half of Colio sits with the family behind Bacalhoa Wines of Portugal.

4. Somersby

Founded 2008

Somersby was first bottled in Denmark in 2008 and belongs to Carlsberg, a Danish brewer. In Canada, Waterloo Brewing in Kitchener signed on in 2019 as the exclusive producer, and an Ontario Made listing still says the apple cider is produced in Kitchener from 100 percent Canadian apples. The brand is Danish. The can in a Canadian store is made here.

5. Growers

Growers started in Saanichton, British Columbia in 1922, and its first cider came in 1962. Arterra Wines Canada owns the trademark and lists a Mississauga office. The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan bought that company in 2016. The site says the cider uses 100 percent local apples, but it does not name the plant that ferments the cans.

6. Okanagan Cider

Labatt agreed in November 2015 to buy the Canadian rights to Okanagan Cider from the Mark Anthony Group, in a US$350 million deal that also covered Mike's Hard Lemonade and Palm Bay. Mark Anthony kept the United States business. Canadian Press and Food in Canada both reported the sale. The LCBO lists the apple and pear cans as made in British Columbia. No company page names the plant.

1. Strongbow

H.P. Bulmer launched Strongbow in Britain in 1960. Heineken has owned the brand outside Australia since it bought Scottish and Newcastle in 2008, and most of the cider is made at Bulmer's plant in Hereford. In Canada, Molson Coors markets and distributes Strongbow under a Heineken deal. No Canadian brewery is named for the cans sold here.
