John Hall needed eight years to plan and produce it. Forty Creek Barrel Select reached Canada in 2000 as separately aged rye, barley, and corn whiskies mixed into one bottle at 40 percent alcohol.
Distilling and ageing both happen at the Grimsby distillery in Ontario. Otto Rieder opened that core building in 1972 to distil tender fruit from the Niagara area. Campari Group bought the company in 2014. No page names the country that grew the grain.
Warm gold is the colour. Honey, vanilla, orange peel, and apricot meet toasted oak and black walnut, then cocoa and a little rye spice show on the tongue. Drink it neat, over ice, or in a highball.
