Canadian Sunscreen Brands

1. ATTITUDE

ATTITUDE is Canadian-owned and made in Quebec. Groupe Attitude inc., a private Montreal company, formulates, fills and packs the range at its Sherbrooke factory. The official claim is Made in Canada. Ingredient origin is not disclosed, so the brand meets the Made in Canada test, not Product of Canada.

2. Green Beaver

Green Beaver is a Canadian independent brand founded by biochemist Karen Clark and microbiologist Alain Ménard in Hawkesbury, Ontario. The company's about page states products are proudly made in Canada, and local reporting places its manufacturing and administration facility on Tupper Street in Hawkesbury.

3. TANIT

Head office in Montreal, QuebecFounded 2018

TANIT Botanics is a Montreal company founded in 2018 by engineers Zohra and Mehdi. Its FAQ states all products are manufactured at its factory in Saint-Léonard, Quebec. The brand develops tablet toothpaste, sunscreen and cleaning products with plant-based and science-backed ingredients.

4. etee

Head office in Oshawa, OntarioFounded 2017

etee is a Canadian company co-founded in Toronto in 2017 and now headquartered in Oshawa, Ontario. Its about page says the team dreams, creates, develops and makes, and the brand hand-packs orders in Canada. Liquid concentrate pods are hand-made in the Toronto area, while toothpaste tablets, floss and other lines are contract-manufactured. Ownership and core operations are Canadian even when every SKU is not Ontario-made.

5. Birch Babe

Birch Babe is a women and family-led Canadian company owned by Birch Babe Naturals Inc. Every product is formulated in the brand's Ontario lab and handmade in small batches there. The company sources EcoCert and Fairtrade ingredients, some of which are imported, but manufacturing stays in Ontario.

1. Coppertone

Head office in Whippany, New JerseyFounded 1944

Coppertone does not show a Canadian factory. Beiersdorf of Hamburg agreed in May 2019 to buy the brand from Bayer for 550 million US dollars. The Canadian site lists Beiersdorf Canada Inc. in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, as the contact. That page does not say where the lotion is filled.

2. Ombrelle

Head office in Montreal, QuebecFounded 1990

Ombrelle is the sunscreen many shoppers treat as Canadian, and the plant is the missing piece. Garnier says it was formulated by a Canadian dermatologist. A 2013 L'Oréal release says it launched in 1990 with Canadian dermatologists, and the speaker is a vice president of L'Oréal Canada. Health Canada lists the company address in Montreal. None of those pages name the factory.

3. Hawaiian Tropic

Hawaiian Tropic does not show a Canadian factory. The Canadian contact page tells shoppers to write to Edgewell Consumer Care in Livingston, New Jersey, the same address Banana Boat uses. The story page says the brand has been around for over 50 years. It never names a plant.

4. La Roche-Posay

La Roche-Posay is not a Canadian sunscreen brand. L'Oréal lists it in the Dermatological Beauty portfolio with Vichy, CeraVe, SkinCeuticals, and Skinbetter Science. That division says 79% of its production is made in France. The Canadian site sells the line and does not name a Canadian plant. Shea butter in the ingredient guide comes from African savannas.

5. Banana Boat

Banana Boat does not show a Canadian factory. Its own story says the brand was born at Miami Beach in 1976. The Canadian contact page tells shoppers to write to Edgewell Consumer Care in Livingston, New Jersey. That page never says where the lotion is filled.

6. Neutrogena

Neutrogena is a Kenvue skincare line. Kenvue calls itself the maker of Neutrogena and opened its global headquarters in Summit, New Jersey in March 2025 after leaving Skillman. No Canadian Neutrogena plant is named on those pages, so Canadian drugstore moisturizers are imports.

7. Aveeno

Head office in Summit, New JerseyFounded 1945

Aveeno is an American brand founded by Albert and Sidney Musher in 1945. Johnson & Johnson acquired it in 1999, and it now sits under Kenvue Inc., a U.S. consumer health company. Aveeno body wash sold in Canada is not manufactured in Canada.
