How do I get started?

There isn't any one way to get started on the website - jump in and start where you're most comfortable! You may want to start by voting and commenting on others' submissions, such as voting in Opinion Polls or leaving comments on what others have contributed in Your Voice or Canada Scene posts. And, of course, you can just jump in and post to Your Voice or submit pictures or video to Canada Scene, or create your own opinion poll - whatever interests you most!

What's a quick way to contribute?

Posting comments and adding interesting links to Your Voice and Canada Scene can be done easily as you browse the site. Voting or making polls in Opinion Polls are also quick and easy ways to contribute to FYI.

That said... submitting an issue or story to Your Voice or posting a video to Canada Scene may not be as time consuming as you think. The key to any post is quality, not quantity- a good but briefly presented issue in Your Voice will be read by more people than a long and rambling one that makes the same point.

I'd love to post to the site, but don't know what to write about. Any ideas?

In terms of posting on FYI, you're limited only by your imagination. Here are a few places to look for inspiration:

Other postings on FYI Canada
Check out any of the sections of the site and see if anything sparks your interest; there are plenty of great submissions. Also, be sure to check out the "Historica Recommends" links in the Your Voice section - they may trigger ideas.

Online news sources
These are a great place to start if you want to write about something current. Try checking out major national news outlets CBC, Globe & Mail, National Post or other more regional news sources.

Other websites
While not an academic source, Wikipedia may be a place to gain some ideas, and you can always follow it up with another article or some research. Also, be sure to check out The Canadian Encyclopedia for ideas, as well as great articles and activities.

Remember, any topic can be interesting depending on the angle you take. Don't worry too much about choosing the perfect topic- choose one that interests you and jump right in!

I'd like to post photos and/or videos to the site, but I'm not sure how to make them and/or upload them.
